Dr Susan Jain
Areas of Expertise
Susan has a special interest in iron deficiency, anaemia and women’s health, and is passionate about helping patients restore their energy, clarity and overall wellbeing. She frequently supports individuals experiencing hair loss linked to low iron and hormonal changes, helping them understand the root cause and pathway to recovery. She takes a holistic, personalised approach looking at the whole person, not just symptoms and draws on functional medicine principles to understand underlying causes and guide patients towards effective, evidence based treatment.
Professional Background
Susan qualified in 1997 and spent three years training as a physician, gaining her MRCP, before completing specialist training and achieving dual CCT in both Anaesthetics and Intensive Care Medicine in 2009.
Her NHS career spans ITU, anaesthetics and the pre-operative optimisation of complex or high-risk surgical patients. She has extensive experience in assessing and managing iron deficiency and anaemia in chronic disease and is particularly passionate about supporting women who are experiencing fatigue, hormonal changes, and reduced quality of life. Her approach blends traditional medical practice with functional insight recognising the importance of treating the patient as a whole and understanding how lifestyle, hormones and underlying imbalances interact.
Leadership and Education
Susan holds several respected leadership and educational roles, including Examiner for the Royal College of Anaesthetists (Final FRCA), Educational Supervisor and recognised Appraiser. She is actively involved in clinical research and currently serves as Principal Investigator for POP-I at Homerton.
Alongside her clinical commitments, she works closely with Critical Care Outreach teams and contributes to developing Patient Blood Management pathways, including the introduction of TEG within intensive care to support safer and more informed decision-making around blood products.
Philosophy of Care
Susan is deeply committed to delivering safe, evidence-based and supportive care. She works collaboratively with patients, helping them understand the root of their symptoms and empowering them to take meaningful steps towards improved health and long-lasting wellbeing.
